Our youngest client is 6 years old and oh-so-smart. She is a joy and a force and she loves her Light Therapy sessions – and thank goodness because, as anyone with kids knows, getting an energetic 6 year to sit still can be a challenge!
She is naturally curious (she’s really involved in STEM and wanted to know all about how Light works) and I answered all her questions about Light, including the explanation about near-infrared not being visible to the naked eye. Several sessions later (she had terrible eczema and came in for multiple sessions) I was using a pad that has red, blue, and near-infrared. Her mom asked why some of the lights/LEDs on the pad were not lit up. Before I could go into an explanation, we were all astounded when the super-smart 6 year old spoke out. She casually looked up and said, “Mom, that’s because that kind of red light isn’t a human see.”
Her mom’s jaw dropped as she looked at me, we all looked at each other, and I broke out laughing and exclaimed how right she was, and that I was going to start using that explanation if it was ok with her! She said yes, so we are now using a 6-year-old’s simple statement of, “that kind of red light isn’t a human see.”
